EL FORTÍN DEL CÍBOLO
"THE FORT ON CÍBOLO CREEK"
Since 1857, El Fortín del Cíbolo has stood proudly among the lush landscape along Cíbolo Creek. As the first venture of industrialist Milton Faver, this fort once played a pivotal role in protecting his ranch from raids by the Apaches, Comanches and local bandits. Guarded by the Cíbolo Fort, Faver operated a sizable agricultural enterprise fed by nearby springs. It was this success in reaping the harvest of the land that enabled him to expand his empire. Have you ever seen a caldera – an ancient volcanic crater? Cíbolo Fort is located inside one that is 20 miles long and 12 miles wide! In fact, the entire landscape around the fort was formed by ancient supervolcanic activity that occurred 32 million years ago.
CÍBOLO FORT ACCOMMODATIONS
Besides being the first fort constructed by Faver, Cíbolo Fort is also the largest. Today, it offers 22 well-appointed guest rooms located in two adjoining haciendas that mirror the style of the old fort. Guests of Cíbolo Fort may cool off in the nearby swimming pool and hot tub, bond with companions in the multimedia room or recreation facility, host a meeting in the conference room, or treat themselves to relaxation at the spa – all only steps from their accommodations. For even more adventure, a well-stocked lake, sporting clay shooting site, rifle and pistol range, and an extraordinary historical and regional artifact museum are also available.
*El Cíbolo may be reserved for private groups of up to 44 people.
